Finally, a practical way to practice ear training on your instrument, whatever your instrument!

Ear to Instrument Trainer helps you improvise by teaching you to play the ideas from your imagination, your inner ear.

This app offers a practical way of training recognising interval shifts (the distance between one note and another) aurally, and performing them on your instrument through a sort of mimicking game.

This app will help students of any instrument that can play single note lines i.e. guitar, piano, bass, flute, saxophone, trumpet, violin, cello, clarinet, etc... Not the drums, sorry!

(For Bb and Eb transposing instruments there is a built in transposer so when you select C you are playing a C scale, not having to think down a tone or up a minor 3rd, phew! For horn players its a great practice to combine with long tones).

How do I use the Ear to Instrument Trainer?

- Select a scale or interval to practice.
- Select a speed to practice at (start slow, the best players practice slow).
- Pick your key (all twelve keys available so maybe do one a day).
- Start the app and have a go at copying the notes you hear, its that simple.

Most people will struggle to begin with, thats why we practice right? Simply reduce the range of notes, right down to two notes. With two notes its 50/50 and the exercise will be mastered in no time at all. Then add another note, three notes now, and try again. Keep playing until you get the correct notes back 100% of the time and then add another. Increase the speed or practice another scale or key, its up to you.

Every single practice session is unique, randomised within your parameters so there is no possible way of cheating!

The big idea and aim is that by training yourself to successfully recognise interval shifts, and play them back on your instrument, you should also be able to unlock the melodies from your imagination; following your inner ear, and be much freer to concentrate on phrasing and sound, just like singing.

Suitable for all levels and abilities. You can progress at your own speed depending on your own learning curve.

Practice different scales and intervals in all 12 keys.

(Guitar and bass players - get to understand the fretboard better by playing the intervals in different positions. Lots more about this at eartoinstrument.com)

Real, high quality piano samples that dont sound harsh to practice with; hook your phone up to a speaker for best audio results.
